Three books ahead

This is the third year in a row I’ve chosen sixty-four books for my Goodreads challenge goal. I like the number because it comes out to an average of one per week, plus one extra per month: 52 + 12 = 64. In 2017, I caught up at the very end of the year by reading a number of short books and even very short children’s books. In 2018, I simply didn’t make it (fifty-one of sixty-four). Goodreads hides that result when I go to my Reading Challenge page. Maybe it’s ashamed of me, or it is worried I will be disappointed seeing the result. This year, for now, at least, I’m doing well toward my goal.

I’m three books ahead. I was even four books ahead for a few hours, but it felt like cheating to take a screen shot of that. But I’m a solid three books ahead at the moment, and I’m commemorating that here. If all goes gradually downhill from now on or I bomb my lead later in the year, at least I can recall with satisfaction having a solid first five months.

I do enjoy reading. Mostly, I’ve been enjoying stories through audiobook. Sometimes I think it’s a little unhealthy, as my mind may have trouble settling into real life during an enveloping listen, and I may experience a bit of withdrawal after concluding a story. But that’s a topic for another time. Maybe never.

Here’s to being three books ahead.
